Superintendent Search

The Board of Education announces the opening of a search for a new Superintendent of Schools who will assume responsibility on July 1, 2017.  BWP & Associates has been retained to assist with the search.
Board Closes Superintendent Search
The Westchester Public Schools, District 92½, Board of Education is pleased to announce the conclusion of the Superintendent search with the hiring of Mr. Philip Salemi as our new Superintendent of Schools.  The Board approved the contract with Mr. Salemi at its March 7, 2017 Special Board meeting.
We had some very qualified candidates for consideration and making a selection was no easy task.  The Board spent many long and thoughtful hours reading applications, reviewing qualifications, developing interview questions, and interviewing applicants. The Board enjoyed having the opportunity to meet and speak with some exceptional candidates. This process is the Board’s most important responsibility and we did not take it lightly as your elected community representatives.
The Board would like to thank the members of the staff and community who attended forums with our search agency, B.W.P. and Associates, to help determine the District’s needs and the leadership qualities that would be most important in the new Superintendent. The community and staff input was very instrumental in helping the Board develop search criteria.
Mr. Salemi has served in several capacities in Chicago Public Schools over the last 22 years. He has been a classroom teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Chief of Schools in Network 2 and is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Strategy and Planning.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Saint Xavier University. He received his Superintendent Endorsement from Concordia University in May 2016 and is currently working towards his Doctorate at Concordia University.  He is excited about our school district and community and can’t wait to get started.  Mr. Salemi stated, “During the Superintendent search process a few things stood out to me.  It was clear from the conversations I had with the Board and the staff just how much people care about the children and the District.   It was also clear to me how important the schools are to the town of Westchester.  I am both humbled and honored to serve as the next Superintendent of District 92½.  I look forward to working with everyone in the District and building relationships with all of the stakeholders in Westchester.”  Mr. Salemi currently resides in Park Ridge with his wife of 16 years, Adriana, and their two boys Benjamin (13) and Matias (11).
The Board is looking forward to working with Mr. Salemi to continue the educational growth and development of our most precious assets, Westchester students.  Although his official employment doesn’t actually begin until July 1, he will have the opportunity to spend several days in the District in the next few months. Please join us in showing your support by taking the opportunity to get to know him better and welcome him to our district.
The Westchester Board of Education would also like to thank Dr. Michael Dziallo for his five years of dedicated service to the District as Superintendent. The Board wishes Dr. Dziallo the best and will always be grateful for the years he spent striving to make a difference for the students and teachers of Westchester.

The discussions will last approximately 1 hour.

An on-line or hard-copy survey will be available October 14-23 that can be accessed by any member of the Westchester community who wishes to provide input.  The link to the survey will be posted on our District website (www.sd925.org) by noon on October 14 and hard copies will be available in each school office.  The data collected from this survey will contribute to a profile that will be developed and used to identify and select the most highly qualified individuals for this very important position.
