Mr. Kucera
Grade 4

Task: Its election time! Only this election will much different than any other one. It is going to decide who was the greatest president of all time. This is where your job starts. Your group will be choosing a candidate for the election. It will be your task to get him elected. You must do research to find out as much as possible about your president. Once you have done this, your group will interview the president, and design a poster and brochure to advertise your candidate. You must convince others that your president is the best, so that they will vote for him on election day. If you do a great job your candidate may just win the title of “The Greatest President Ever”. Good luck!

Process:

1. The class will be divided into groups of four.

2. Each group must choose their candidate.

3. Each member of your group will have one job. These jobs will be:

  • President (one person) – will be interviewed; must know all of the information about the president
  • Interviewer (one person)- will interview the president; must develop interview questions
  • Advertisers (two people)- design a poster and brochure to persuade people to vote for your candidate
4. Once you have decided on the jobs, you will need to begin doing research. You may use the list of resources provided or you may use some of your own. When doing research you should find at least the following information:

when and where the president was born
the members of his family
the jobs he had before he was president
when he was president
the accomplishments of the president
his views on important subjects
the decisions he made
any other important information
5. Once your research is done, begin working on your interview, poster, and brochure.

  • Interview- The interviewer will design the questions to ask the president. Be sure to ask many important questions so that the audience will know all about your candidate, and will want to vote for him. This interview will be done in front of the class.
  • Brochure- Design a brochure to provide information on your candidate. It should be informative and attractive. You should include facts and pictures about your candidate.
  • Poster- Design a poster to advertise your candidate. Include items to persuade others to vote for him. It should be informative and eye catching. Be sure to include the date of the election.
6. Once all of the interviews have been done and posters and brochures have been displayed, students will then be given a few days to decide on their vote. Then the election will be held. The candidate with the most votes will be declared “ The Greatest President Ever”.
