English as a Second Language

Students whose native language is not English are offered assistance in either a Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) or a Transtitional Bilingual Education (TBE) program.

The Transtitional Program of Instruction (TPI) is for non-native English speaking students who have difficulty with written or spoken English. The program provides support to help students succeed in academic subjects and learn English.

The Transitional Bilingual Education Program (TBE) provides instruction in the student's native language with transition into English. The program helps students to succeed in academic subjects and learn English. The Westchester Public Schools offer a Transitional Bilingual Education Program (TBE) for Spanish speakers.
